I provide a variety of illustration services, always 100% hand-drawn, original, and unique.

Get to know me
As an illustrator and designer, I specialize in creating unique, hand-drawn artwork for authors, focusing on fantasy and romance themes, including covers, maps, and custom illustrations.
I have a background in design, having studied architecture at university. My studies have informed my process, and I like to work in an iterative fashion - checking in with clients regularly from concept to completion, refining as we go. You never get the best result on the first try, so I believe revision is key - all my prices include scope for multiple rounds of edits and adjustments to produce illustrations you love.
Using exlusively illustration means that anything comissioned by me is completely unique - you won't find anything like it anywhere else. Unlike with photo manipulation, where many covers may use the same stock photos, there's no chance of the same model or motif cropping up when your cover is fully illustrated. Also, stock photography sites are increasingly populated with AI generated imagery that isn't always labelled - hand illustration means you know your cover is 100% human made.
As well as my design practice, I'm also an indie author myself. I self-published my first novel last year and am still getting to grips with the world of self-publishing from the writer's side of things! I understand first hand how challenging publishing can be and I know that eye catching covers and special artwork can go the extra mile towards getting your work into readers hands.

My work and process
About Me
I currently live in Edinburgh, Scotland, with my husband. I've also lived in Orkney, and the Highlands. These remote and beautiful places inspire my artwork (and my writing). I've always been very inspired by nature, but also by buildings - the architecture of Edinburgh is also a rich source of inspiration.
I love exploring new things and bringing diversity into my work. Whilst I work digitally in my professional practice, in my free time I explore traditional art techniques (my favourite is gouache painting) and crafts - I'm currently learning to knit a jumper. Creativity fills every part of my life, and I am driven to share that with others - whether that means working with a client on an ambitious brief to put the images in their head onto paper, or making handmade gifts for my friends and family.
My second biggest passion is reading. I always have a book on the go, and love to read widely. Books have got me through so many hard times, and I adore being part of the process of bringing new ones into the world. Whilst I gravitate towards romance (romantasy, contemporary, and historical) and fantasy, I love to read widely and try new things.
As someone who lives with disability, I believe diversity in art is extremely important. I welcome diverse projects and will always seek to represent things accurately and sensitively in my work. It's important that the visual aspects of books convey the richness of the stories within.
Rhiannon Walters was the designer and illustrator of our poetry collection Ship in Distress. Rhiannon brought our design concept to life with a distinctive art style throughout, making careful formatting choices to best compliment the poetry. As well as being a talented artist and meticulous designer, we have always found her a professional and friendly person to work with.
